Fun Home is out of stock
July 2nd, 2006 | Interviews & Reviews
But it’s gone back to press. I guess this is kind of a good thing, because it means people have been snapping the book up. But it’s also kind of a bad thing, because now other people won’t be able to get it for a while. You can probably still find it in lots of stores, but if not, more are coming July 9th.

Congrats on going to a second printing! I’ve been a fan of the strip since the very early days…I worked in the Franklin/Powderhorn neighborhood in those days and thought that so much of it looked ohso familiar.
Fun Home devasted me…in a good way. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Hello Alison Bechdel,
I did not know who you were when I woke up this morning and had to leave the house before your broadcast interview concluded in Chicago, but I got to hear the bulk of it, enough to find you on the web at least, and I thought it was wonderful. Looking forward to reading your book,
Cheers,

First, congratulations.
(As in indication of people “snapping the book up”,
today’s Sunday Boston Globe lists _Fun Home_ as #7
on its Hardcover/Nonfiction list –up from #10 last
week and two places ahead of Ann Coulter!!)
On the other hand…
Bummer that this had to happen just before you start
the upper-midwest leg of the book tour, with the new
printing shipping on the last day (9Jul). (I wonder if
Houghton-Mifflin has “special reserves” that they can
send out. In any case, if it really becomes an issue,
surely the bookstores will be smart enough to sell
vouchers or some such.)

Congratulations!
Maybe you can sign bookplates for folks who pre-order against the second printing at your readings this week. Yoicks!

My copy from Amazon.com is on the way, so some stores are sitting on some stock. Alison, how many were printed in the first run.

Congratulations.. that’s wonderful! (In terms of sales, anyway.. not so wonderful if you’re one of the unlucky few sitting in wait.)
I noticed the other night that our local B&N (hey, there aren’t many options around here!) still had a few copies in stock, so if you can’t buy them online, it may still be possible to find them locally. (Although they do have a graphic novel section, the one here is stocking it with the biographies.)

was in toronto this last weekend and the toronto women’s bookstore was also out. they said they had offered it 25% off and they all went (except for one behind the desk that was on hold, but as charming as i tried to be, i could not get hold of it).
the previous week during ny pride i checked out some bookshops in the village and they did not have it either. one of the guy places said it sounded interesting but women’s stuff did not sell well enough for them so they did not order it.
boo!
am looking forward to getting a copy!

We still have some at Amazon (the feminist bookstore). Well, at least until the reading this thursday — looking forward to seeing you then.

I bought mine (last copy on the shelf, hidden between a couple of Marvel graphic novels, and the only reason I found it was because I was pointing out Linda Medley’s hardback collection of Castle Waiting to my wife) at my local independent bookstore (because our local women’s bookstore went nonprofit and nonbookly a few years ago) over the weekend. I tore through it in about three hours, and then my wife had to read it.
Gorgeous, gorgeous stuff. I like the narrative style, and the art is so beautifully done. I have already (in a friendslocked post in my blog) likened its memorability to some of my favorites of the DtWoF storylines, like Jezanna’s mother’s death.
Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us.

I read the article about you in the WEEK magazine and the
quote,” But I also feel like, what are you gonna do?- this
is what happened.” sums up the attitude that people should
take when things happen to them that they cannot control.
